James Crawford
Mr. Crawford is a consultant in the Southern California area specializing in communication system design, RF ASICs and subsystem design, and
related digital signal processing. In 1999, he co-founded Magis Networks serving first as Vice President of Engineering and then as CTO, playing a major role
in the technical development of the first 5 GHz synchronous high-QoS system capable of reliable wireless transport of studio-quality MPEG2 video. Throughout
the 1990s, he consulted for many different companies including Hughes Network Systems, Hughes Space & Communications, Comstream, PCSI, Titan-Linkabit, AMCC,
and L-3. He has either received or contributed to over 20 U.S. patents. Mr. Crawford was engaged in the Ph.D. program in communication systems at USC in the
mid-1980s but did not complete the degree. Prior to beginning his consulting business in 1990, he previously held staff engineering positions at Linkabit, TRW,
and Hughes. He received his Masters Degree in Quantum Electronics (EE) at USC several years prior as a Hughes Fellow. He is the author of the 1994 textbook
"Frequency Synthesizer Design Handbook" and an accompanying design software package "Frequency Synthesizer Design Toolkit".
